About The Book
In a world increasingly attuned to diversity and inclusion, Unmuted Voices: How We Hear Accents — and Learn to Judge Differently shines a light on a bias that too often goes unspoken — accent bias. Through poignant stories, personal reflection, and cultural insight, this book explores how the way we speak can shape how we're seen, heard, and judged.

Blending narrative, research, and strategy, Unmuted Voices invites readers into real-world experiences of those whose voices mark them as “other.” But it doesn’t stop at awareness — it offers practical tools, reflection exercises, and language for interrupting bias, shifting conversations, and building more inclusive communication.
A tribute to the dreamers who find themselves on the periphery, judged not by their words but by the nuances of their pronunciation — and a guide for all of us ready to listen differently and lead with empathy.
Why This. Why now.
Accent bias is everywhere — in classrooms, job interviews, team meetings — yet it’s one of the least discussed barriers to inclusion. Unmuted Voices was born from a simple truth: the way we listen shapes who we value. And too often, people are judged not by what they say, but by how they sound.
As a Senegalese immigrant, I’ve felt that bias personally. But more heartbreaking was watching my mother — a brilliant, trilingual woman — be dismissed simply because her accent didn’t “sound American.” I also watched others choose to listen differently. That contrast — between exclusion and empathy — sparked a mission I’ve carried into my TEDx Talk , my coaching practice, and now, this book.
Unmuted Voices is for anyone who’s ever felt pressure to shrink their voice — and for every educator, leader, or inclusion professional ready to change that. This book is a call to speak proudly, listen deeply, and build a world where EVERY VOICE HAS POWER.
